How I Spent My Summer Vacation
by George the Airedale
I spent the first part of my vacation helping my mommy and daddy catch up on some chores around the house.  One of my favorite was watering all of the flowers.  All that work made me very thirsty, however.  For some reason, the water from the sprinkling can tastes much better than the water in my bowl!
We spent one day of my vacation on a road trip up to Grafton, Illinois where I took my very first ferry ride on the Brussels Ferry.  The Brussels Ferry is one of the few remaining free ferries in the United States.  It took us across the Illinois River so we could explore Brussels, Illinois and the rest of Calhoun County.  I felt just like Huck Finn!

The best part of the day, however, was the drive home.  We stopped at Taco Bell and I got to eat my very first Chalupa!  (And I'm not even a Chihuahua)  Yo Quiero Taco Bell?

Below are some pictures of me on my exciting ferry ride.
Here I am watching for pelicans after our ferry ride.  If you look closely, you can see a pelican on the boat in the background, right above my forehead.

Did you know that pelican watching has developed into a tourist attraction in the Alton, Illinois area?  It's getting almost as popular as eagle-watching.  About 1,000 pelicans per day stop in Alton to feed and rest as they migrate north in the spring and south in the winter.  Alton is even planning a pelican-watching festival this fall!
Mommy and daddy were getting so tired of driving during our vacation, that I finally convinced them to let me behind the wheel (after all, I will be three years old this October!)

Daddy said that I drive MUCH better than mommy!
I also got to go to one of my favorite places during my vacation: Laderman Park in Belleville, Illinois.  We walked the one mile trail, and then I got to run and play on the flexi leash (that I got from Aunt Crissey & Uncle Ryan).
On the days that it was too hot to go outside, my mommy and daddy played with me inside.  We spent hours and hours playing with all my toys, but my very favorite thing to do is to try to catch the balls that they throw to me.  It's even better if they chase me after I catch it!

Here are some action shots of me catching the balls.  Am I good, or what?
Daddy and I are worn out from our exciting vacation (mommy's not as tired, she says we're wimps!)

My mom and dad told me that out of all of the places that they could go on vacation, there's no place they'd rather be than at home with me!

Have a great summer, everyone!
